I continue to lightly scan for After Capitalism even though I’m heavy into the writing phase. I periodically check in to see what’s come up lately. June was my last review, so I thought I’d share what’s come across since then. I collected 119 hits total over this four-month period. That’s kind of heavy, party because I was collecting “varieties of capitalism” hits and mostly due to the increased intensity of the anti-capitalism coverage. I would need to do more analysis to confirm this, but my sense is that the coverage is shifting from reforming capitalism to getting rid of it (don’t worry, still way more reform hits overall). But there seems to be a shift. Look at some selected headlines — this is what’s popping folks!
We have discussed the futurist value proposition that if you do your scanning homework, you will not be surprised. So, when capitalism collapses (and it seems more like a collapse, than a gradual change or choice), we have no excuse for being surprised. I still think we’re a couple decades away, but I’m feeling less confident about that almost daily. – Andy Hines
