It’s always such fun to see someone you know come out with a book that you really like! Indeed, I recently received a copy of Chris Ertel and Lisa Kay Solomon’s Moments of Impact: How to Design Strategic Conversations that Accelerate Change. And I am not surprised that it is a wonderful book that all of us interested in the future will find quite useful.
Chris and I go way back. In my Dow Chemical day’s in the early 2000’s, Chris was my client guide when I was a members of GBN’s awesome Worldview Program. He was a terrific partner and really helped me to integrate into the GBN community and get the most out of my membership. We became great friends and even designed a special Worldview Event together on using foresight tools. He would send me things to read – just because — and I always found them interesting and useful. And I am so pleased that he is on the APF Gathering agenda next week!
I’m providing this background to emphasize that I have found him to be someone who really walks the talk in terms of helping clients get value from working together. So when you read the stories and check out the wonderful tools he provides in the book, I can vouch that this is the real stuff –not just consultant-speak – and isn’t that a nice treat!
I won’t go into a full review here – I need more time to do justice to that. A few words I will share. I think most of us are familiar with the concept of strategic conversation. For many of us, it may seem almost a bit mystical – how does one do it? Well, here you have it. Chris and Lisa’s book is chock full of “how-to’s” and examples that I feel all of us will end up using in our practice. And it even has a 60-page “starter kit!” Again, knowing Chris, I’m not surprised that he’s put out a great book, it’s just great to get my hands on it. You should too! Andy Hines
