One of the cool things about being a journal editor is not only do you get to see what aspiring authors are interested, but you get to pick some topics now and then. And one I’d really like to explore is the role of AI in education. It interests me as a journal editor, as a professor, as a futurist, and as a human being.
Topics could include:
- Applications and benefits: what might be unintended consequences?
- AI’s role in personalizing education (anyone remember the “Primer” in Neal Stephenson’s Diamond Age?)
- Does AI have the potential to improve learning and life outcomes….or will it serve particular “interests?”
- and more, more, more.
For those who don’t know, I’ve been the Editor-in-Chief for On the Horizon for a year or so. We have been sharpening our focus on the future of education and learning. We are emphasizing emerging issues, novel challenges, and strategic considerations specific to the future of higher education. It’s high time we start systematically exploring some of the big questions, and AI has to be pretty on the list!
So if you agree, and you have the time, motivation, and enthusiasm to pull together a special issue on the topic, I would love to hear from you. The details are here.
I’d love the opportunity to work with someone on the future of this vitally important topic.
