APF colleague Matthew Henry pointed me in the direction of Simbi, which is essentially a bartering site in which “you can exchange services with other members or offer to ‘pay’ them for their time using your credits.” The home page welcomes you to the “Symbiotic Economy” – voila! A quick web search turned up a foundation providing research support for Isabelle Delannoy, Symbiotic Economy co-founder and theorist (unfortunately for us the first book is in French). There is a French-English website that has some core ideas
A summary of the main idea of the symbiotic economy: “The different key sustainable economic innovations of the last 50 years share a core structure, based on collaborative practices, forming renewable ecosystems, and producing positive impact. If assembled, innovations from three spheres of economic activity – those using natural ecosystems, social and collaborative innovation, and efficient technology – enter into symbiotic relationship.”
Sounds like some systems thinking there!J In our taxonomy, this clearly fits with the sustainability/purpose vision. The Symbiotic Economy is the 40th in our ongoing list (and it’s always nice to have a round number). Andy Hines
